Pratham

Pratham is an educational non-profit organization that focuses on improving the quality of education for children in India, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. Founded in 1994 by Dr. Madhav Chavan, Pratham works to provide children with access to basic education and bridge the learning gap in rural and urban areas.

The organization’s mission is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Pratham's primary focus is on early childhood education, literacy, and numeracy skills, with innovative programs like the "Read India" campaign that aim to improve learning outcomes across the country. By engaging local communities, Pratham has reached millions of children through its interventions, especially in rural and marginalized areas.

Pratham’s impact is seen in its unique approach to education, which involves community-based programs, teacher training, and the use of technology to enhance learning. The organization has developed scalable models that can be adapted to different contexts, ensuring the effective delivery of education. Pratham also conducts large-scale assessments, such as the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), to monitor progress and identify areas needing improvement in India's education system.

Today, Pratham is one of the largest non-governmental education organizations in India, with a presence in over 20 states. Its work has transformed the educational landscape, ensuring that millions of children receive quality education, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and build better futures.
