Social Hackathon

Built on a design thinking approach, this initiative enables young people to identify real challenges from their communities and develop practical, testable solutions.

What if young people didn’t just discuss problems—but actively worked on solving them?

At the Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a vertical of The Ignite Foundation, the Social Hackathon is designed exactly for that. Built on a design thinking approach, this initiative enables young people to identify real challenges from their communities and develop practical, testable solutions.

Why the Social Hackathon?

The Social Hackathon is not a typical competition—it is a process-driven, action-oriented experience. Participants move beyond brainstorming to:

  • Understand real community problems

  • Work collaboratively using design thinking methodologies

  • Develop solution prototypes

  • Test and refine ideas grounded in real contexts

The focus is on doing, not just ideating.

Impact So Far

In 2026 alone, the Social Hackathon process has already led to:

  • 25+ solutions addressing social challenges

  • Several of these solutions currently in the pilot phase, being tested in real-world settings

This reflects a key belief: with the right process and support, young people can become active problem-solvers in their own communities.

Bringing Hackathons to Campuses

The Social Hackathon is also being taken to colleges and institutions, creating localized spaces for innovation and action.

If your institution is interested in hosting a Social Hackathon, you can reach out directly to explore collaboration opportunities.
